The Himalayan Gardens at Grewelthorpe is a superb collection of rhodendrons, azaleas and other acid-loving plants with some great sculpture dotted around. This was a plein air painting trying to capture the great range of colours in the trunks of the trees and the foliage. I was much inspired by having seen David Hockney's superb exhibition "A bigger picture" at the RA
