Wood nymphs (the Three Graces)
I had a three day salmon fishing trip on the River South Esk in Scotland and the walk alongside the river was through an ancient beech wood - they trees were massive and must have been a couple of hundred years old and were all gnarled and twisted into fantastic shapes. I didn't come home with any fish but I had some superb ideas for paintings. This fanciful studio painting was based on the theme of the Three Graces because the trees had such human-like shapes.
